Baby Bunny Costume For Toddlers On Halloween

by Danielle Callaghan

With Halloween a little over a month away, it is not too early to begin thinking about costumes for your young child or toddler to wear. Many parents opt for more inexpensive outfits for their little trick-or-treaters to wear. One of the most popular ideas is the baby bunny costume.

The question of how to construct a baby bunny is the greatest challenge. Many families are looking for inexpensive and fast ways to outfit their children for the Halloween night. In today's economy, the easiest and cheapest solution is to make the outfit yourself. It is easier than one might think!

Figuring out your artistic and skill levels is the first step. Some are more adept at the sewing machine, while others have more of a craft bent to their skills. Some want the easiest method in creating a costume. Using an old sweatshirt, hoodie, or shirt is simplest, although a hoodie works best. Gluing on bunny ears onto the hood and decorating them follows.

Next, match the hoodie with similar-colored footie-pajamas, for the bottom of the costume. Gather some cotton balls and bind them together with glue, and affix this makeshift tail to the seat of the pants for the cutest bunny tail you have ever seen! You can also add some details like white gloves for the hands, slippers for the feet, and give the child props to hold, like a carrot or lettuce.

When the top parts are done, match pants or sweats or footie-pajamas for the bottom piece. Creating a cotton tail is as easy as gluing together a few pieces of cotton and affixing them to the rear of the lower portion of the outfit. Adding some cute details like white mittens, bunny slippers, props like carrots or lettuce can finish the design.

Lastly, painting the child's face presents perhaps the most daunting task. Assuming you can get your child or toddler to sit still long enough to get his face painted, it is most important to choose simple designs for the face of the bunny. Less is more in this instance.

Sit your child in a chair with a towel around their neck, keeping any hair pulled back to keep it out of the way. Wipe the child's face clean with a towelette and test the face paint on the cheek to see if there is an allergic reaction. Apply light colors first with a broad brush, and use smaller brushes for finer details suck as whiskers, eyes, and nose. Use simple designs like circles, diamonds, and half moons, etc. Soap and water will remove face paint later in the evening.

A last detail could be to decorate the trick-or-treat bag with some bunny accents. You may glue on little paper rabbit ears on a container or paper bag to complete the outfit. Your child should be ready to wow them over with cuteness! With a bit of creativity and ingenuity, you too can create your own baby bunny costume at a fraction of the cost of a store-bought outfit.
