Don't Make These Adwords Mistakes Most People Do

by Violet Shaffer

The internet has blown up in the past couple of years. Almost a decade back, Google was launched, a website that aimed at solving the problem of searching information online. A few years after that, the company got successful and launched their very own advertising platform called AdWords. The platform has since overshadowed all other pay per click markets. The reason they still lead all the others is because of Google's advanced technology and the money people are making. There are no companies who even come close to offering this. But then why do many people fail with AdWords when they start off? If it's such a great program, how come people end up throwing their money away and quitting when it doesn't work for them? That is due to the fact that they constantly make blunders which you can avoid if you just keep them in mind.

The first mistake you can commit is not giving your ad positions the proper test, especially if you're vying for the top position in Google's search. Many would say this is where you want to be, but it can actually be a bad thing. Just because your ad is at the top of the list doesn't mean that you couldn't fail. Believe it or not, most often times lower positioned ads have higher click through ratios. So in essence, you must keep testing your ROI for each of your advertisement's positions. In many cases you'll make more money in the 4th or 5th position, just because you're paying less, which means your customer acquisition cost is lower.

Another serious AdWords error is failing to test ads by creating only one ad. You obviously need to create at least one ad that targets certain keywords. But having only one single ad you won't really know how to improve it based on performance. You can't test a single ad without another to compare it to. You want to use a minimum of two ads so you can measure the results and see which is superior. Once you know which ad is giving you better results, you can easily replace the other ads that aren't working so well. The majority of successful AdWords marketers use this tactic, which is called split testing.

People often also make the mistake of entering the content network without first changing their bidding. The content network needs to only be utilized by people with a lot of experience using Adwords. If you do enter it, make sure you are wary of what you are bidding. Google recently changed Adwords which gave users the ability to include different bids for the content network and for the search engine. That means that if you failed to set a different bid for the content network, you will probably end up going broke. When prices are lower on the keywords you've chosen, you will be able to keep your CTR steady even after you lower your bid.

So, essentially, Google Adwords is the best when it comes to online ads. It's the answer for success for many direct internet marketers. This ad platform has a lot of potential, as long as you can avoid the previous mistakes. As long as you use it correctly, you'll go as far as you want to go.
