by Christopher Chandler

As many people have associated reality TV shows with celebrity drama and pop culture, relevant TV shows to the everyday lives of many people have quietly snuck their way into top spots on large networks. A great example of this is tv show about gold mining, and it now has a fan base of tens of millions. The part that affects the hearts of many eager fans is mainly that they share the common dream of expressing their free American spirit as is portrayed by the Hoffman crew.

Gold mining has been a respectable occupation for centuries, but the excitement, hardships, and freedom that come with it have been forgotten by the majority. When Discovery's Gold Rush Alaska suddenly brought it back, millions became instantly addicted and just couldn't get enough. There is just something about the allure of gold, getting your hands dirty, and risking it all that appeals to many, but most people just don't possess the guts to do go out and do it. Or perhaps, they possess more common sense than our beloved stars on gold mining television show.

After a brutal and disappointing finish to the first season, it wouldn't come as a surprise that many viewers who had seriously dreamed of gold mining had suddenly given it a second thought. Dakota Fred was still the underdog in the first season of Gold Rush, but the Hoffman crew and the Shnavel crew had not found the amounts of gold on which they had set their hearts and minds. It was so bad; it seemed this was going to be the end to the seemingly short series.

Initially, the miners endured a myriad of trials and tribulations, but could their will and passion carry them through? The adversarial Alaskan weather, equipment failure, mental stress, and financial hardships did nothing to stop these miners from constantly biting the bullet and pulling through. television show about gold mining revealed to America that raw, iron-willed and undeviating entrepreneurship still exists to this day regardless of the prevalent fears associated with the economy and gambles of gold mining.

After OSHA slowing down the Schnavel crew and Dakota Fred's crew, Dakota Fred stealing the Hoffman's claim, and torrential floods swallowing Fred's home, the shared dream of striking it rich mining gold seemed just out of reach for all of them. However, towards the end of the second season of Gold Rush Alaska, Fred's and Todd's crew actually began to find decent amounts of gold, but Parker is still left with empty pockets and the need to graduate high school before he embarks a lifetime of mining gold.
