Success<em> </em>is an elusive thing for most new distributors and experienced veterans as well. This is oddly true, despite the indisputable fact that multi-level marketing businesses customarily conduct training regarding how to succeed.

Sponsoring and team building is the primary subject of conversation at most meetings, conventions and webinars, yet most people never make a profit in MLM marketing.

So why is this?

After many years of hearing about standard prospecting strategies, I've come to appreciate why.

<strong>Pitching the Products</strong>

This one always left me dumbfounded. You see, I joined MLM to earn income. Most everyone I have ever spoken to in the business wants to earn income. People scour the internet trying to work out how to make a little cash. But what are we taught to pitch? The product. What's all over the company site? The product.

So this creates an inbuilt problem. Rationally, what makes us think that if someone likes to lose weight, as an example, that they're enthusiastic about <em>selling</em> diet products? It makes almost no sense.

If you're a good salesperson, and have a good product, you may sell a large amount of it. But those purchasers won't usually do the same, so you won't grow a downline.

<strong>Bad Targeting</strong>

So the root of this is that we are just taught to target poorly. A basic marketing concept. Identify your target audience, find them, sell to them.

For instance, if you sell farm tractors, your audience is probably farmers. So you must probably get a database of farmers and sell them your tractors. But we are basically taught to sell tractors to folk who live in downtown New York. Got it?

Now, to make this clear. I do not say your Aunt isn't the right target for your anti aging cream. I'm telling you that you aren't IN the lotion business!

You are in the "growing a downline full of marketing pros" business. So your target prospect, by definition, must be folk who need to sponsor and build a team who need to do the same, all with the end goal of making money together.

<b>Success in MLM - Now You're Ready to Get Busy</b>

So with your new focus and new targeting, you're job just got much simpler. You now have identified what sort of person your marketing to. Stop promoting to those that don't fit your profile. Stop pushing the products.

I don't need to show you that online marketing is huge. It's huge. It's become the simplest way to market almost anything. Targeting is easy. Your marketplace is international. It's immediate. And done correctly , it's inexpensive and effective. But you need to do it right.

Now, there are both paid advertising techniques and free methods of gaining traffic, or prospects, that you will create a list from. That list becomes your selling vehicle to grow your MLM marketing business.

So it's time to get busy. Learn internet promoting techniques like blogging, PPC ads, article promoting and social media promoting. Pick one system you like and focus on that strategy till you learn it and it becomes a profit center for your business, before you implement a 2nd strategy.
