Advantages and disadvantages of Getting a Franchise

by Jonathan Edmunds

Non-professional fresh graduates generally always have a difficult time getting good jobs. If they are privileged enough to get employed, they often start at the bottom, with low salary rates. Fortunately, individuals who don't want to begin at the bottom don't need to. You can now start your own business by acquiring a patent from well known associations. All you need to have is a little capital, which you could always get from credits if you don't have ample cash.

In franchising, interested parties are authorized to make use of an existing business's brand name, merchandises, and production methods. Of course, all this comes with a fee. In order to become a franchisee, the interested party will need to pay an initial fee that will give them rights to the brand name and goods of the business. The amount of this expense would depend on how well known the franchisor is. After settling the fee, the interested party should get all the permits and legalities needed for him to become a franchisee. Once everything is finalised, the interested party lawfully becomes a franchisee and could therefore commence the business as soon as possible.

It is more advantageous for striving business owners to participate in franchising rather than to start a company of their own because they already have an advantage over their competitions-- a brand name. Customers trust companies with recognized brand names more readily compared to newly-opened companies. Acquiring a franchise rather than setting up your own organization would additionally improve your chances of obtaining approved loans. Because you have a proven business model and support from the franchisor, creditors would be more comfortable in lending you finances. All trainings needed are also sponsored by the franchisor, and in some cases they even help you find the best venue to construct your store. Since these franchisors have been in the business for a while, there are lesser risks involved for you.

Obviously, there are also inconveniences in entering a franchise business. First and foremost, you don't get to reap all the earnings that your business would generate. Since you are just borrowing the business's title and products, a fraction of your gross profits would need to go to the franchisor. Also, since you are bounded to the franchisor, they could continue to have some sort of control over how you handle and administer the business.

Franchising is a convenient way of having an enterprise to manage. As long as you pay the fees and secure all legalities, you would be able to enjoy the label, merchandises, and development processes of a famous brand. You have the feel of being a boss while at the same time also being guided by someone else. Though you would need to remit a share of your proceeds to the franchisor, this is virtually nothing compared to the problems you would experience just to earn the same amount of earnings when starting from scratch.
