The Easiest Way To Learn How To Sell Anything

by Conrad Oconnorton

Learning how to sell anything first means accepting that the good or service being sold and the customer to whom it is being sold are not the issue. The issue is the pitch itself. Anything can be sold by a smart salesperson. Here are some tips on how to make your sales pitches work no matter what the goods in question are.

Crucial to all of this is the attention span of your customers. Consumers are strange beasts in that often times they will spend money on things they do not need or, in some cases, even particularly want while not purchasing goods which might genuinely improve their lives. The reason for that often is because the former good marketed itself effectively while the latter did not.

The best pitch therefore is the one which gets their attention straight away. A bland technique renders the actual benefits of the product redundant. Until you have the audience focused it doesn't matter what you say, the information will be falling on deaf ears. The message here: how you say it is the same as what you say.

A key element of the sales pitch is the bait - the thing which initially takes the customer's attention away from their busy lives and makes them think 'this is worth listening to.' One very common technique is to offer something for nothing. To illustrate this further, let's say you are selling a product which promises to improve the health of those who use it.

To catch the potential buyer's eye, this product could be introduced with the offer of a free booklet giving health and nutritional advice. This will be relevant to the benefits of the product though not phrased as a pitch. This introduces you to the market the right way and immediately gets their eyes on the product you are selling.

The most important part of selling is tone. Listing the benefits and disadvantages is easy and also easily ignored. What people pay attention to is tone ahead of all other things. This does not just mean tone of voice but the entire tone of your product and the image you build in the eye of the potential consumer.

So, when thinking about how to sell anything, think heavily about how you sound. It is all about the way our pitch makes them feel about the product and how quickly you can claim their focus. This will help you make that crucial pitch and sell your product.
