A scene is a place where actions or images take place. One may talk about a crime scene but the expression 'crime landscape' would probably cause a cop to stare. A scene is more specific than a landscape and the adjective derived from it and applied to the noun pictures suggests things that may be seen quite close up, or from various perspectives.

There is usually an element of design in a picture, but not always. A amateur photographer who points and snaps will miss elements of design such as foregrounding, perspective and color coordination that will mark the work of a professional. Pictures of scenery may be carefully designed with an animal or beautiful girl strategically placed to become an aspect of the scene around her.

Nature is a word that has been used for a long time to refer to that which as not been altered or made by mankind. In recent years the word 'environment' has come to be used widely as a synonym for nature, although there is quite a wide difference in the sense of the two words. The former implies unspoilt by mankind and the latter has a greater emphasis on surroundings. One can talk about a 'built environment' but not about a 'built natural city'.

Scenic pictures of nature are usually aesthetically pleasing. They depict natural harmony, quietness and tranquility. Often they are found in urban environments offering those who gaze at them the vicarious pleasure of enjoying things that are not made by mankind but by the slow passage of time.
