How To Choose The Best Plan For Your Droid Phone

by Stewart L. Johnson

Selecting the best plan for your new android phone doesn't mean getting a smartphone for free or at a minimum cost, it also means considering what the plan will cost you over the lifetime of your contract. This article will provide some important facts of a smartphone plan that you should consider before you making your final choice.

1) Contract Length

Most cell phone providers will lower the cost of the monthly plan when the length of the contract is longer. For example, a two year plan may be lowest, but will it really save you money?

2) Cooling Off Period

Any phone plan for a droid phone that you sign up with should always provide a refund period. The refund period should give you a few weeks to try out the plan and decide whether you like it.

3) Cancellation Language

If you do sign up for a longer contract period in order to secure better pricing, are you likely to cancel before the end of the contract? If so, it's essential to know what the cancellation fees will - before you sign up.

4) Changing Plans

The best smartphone plans will allow you to change your specific plan even when you're in the middle of your contract. This is a useful feature to have. For example, you may find that, after 6 months, you always have free minutes left and could save money by downgrading. Check whether your favored plan will allow you to do this.

5) Overusage Costs

While you may find that you don't use all of the included minutes and text messages, you could experience the opposite and find yourself going over your allowance every month. Don't be caught out! Compare the prices for exceeding your usage, especially in areas such as data or international calls where costs can quickly get out of control.

6) Data & Minutes Tracking

Does the proposed plan even come with a way to help you track your usage? If not, this could be a clear sign to stay away. How else will you know whether you've still got inclusive minutes left to stop yourself overspending?

7) Different Types Of Connections

It's important to note that different cell phone providers use different networks. There are two main networks in the United States: CDMA and GSM. If you choose a GSM phone, you won't be able to use the CDMA network (and vice versa). CDMA coverage is generally stronger within the USA, but if you regularly travel abroad then you'll find a GSM provider/ phone to be a better choice.

8) Reception

Unfortunately, you can't take advantage of the very best smartphone plans unless you know that the provider has a good reception in your area. Always check the coverage before you buy, or you could end up frustrated! (And this is another reason why a cooling off period is so important)
