What To Look For When Buying Aerobic Exercise Equipment

by Andreson Grawlin

Aerobic exercises or cardio are an integral component to any weight management program. Grownups will benefit greatly from doing 2 hours and 30 minutes to five hours of moderately intensive cardiovascular exercise weekly, or half of such length for more strenuous aerobic routines.

If you want to start a weight loss or maintenance program but you don't want to enroll in a fitness club, consider buying a cardio machine so you can exercise at home. These cardio machines are a collection of different types of training equipment which facilitate aerobic conditioning and weight loss. These include standing cardio equipment such as treadmills, stair steppers, and elliptical machines; and seated cardio equipment such as stationary bicycles and rowing machines. It is also possible to find combinations of two or more types of aerobic machines, like elliptical-stationary bicycle combinations.

All of these are great products, but it would be prohibitive to buy all of them. Looking at activities you enjoy doing and which ones work for you will help you decide which ones to get. For instance, if you love jogging, consider getting a treadmill. But if you want no-impact activities, get an elliptical trainer or bike instead.

Moreover, you have to come up with a budget beforehand. Cardio machines tend to be expensive, especially good ones. The price range is wide, from $100 to $4,000. By establishing how much you are comfortable to shell out ahead of time, you will be able to limit your options and prevent yourself from overspending unnecessarily. Furthermore, you have to identify which features you are ready to spend additional money for. For instance, not all of these exercise equipment have heart rate and cadence monitors or syncing features. Just remember not to be too penny-pinching to the extent of overlooking safety features such as handrails, safety switches for motorized ones, and chain guards.

Furthermore, you have to consider the equipment's footprint. These exercise equipment tend to have big footprints. If space is an issue, consider buying folding cardiovascular equipment so you can easily store them when not in use. Keep in mind though that you should buy those that have durable construction, are stable, have convenient folding and storage features, and are not too heavy to move across the room. Furthermore, it is highly suggested that you test the machine prior to buying to see if it is easy to operate and doesn't jerk when used. Also, try to check if it makes a lot of noise during operation and if it does, look for another model. Make sure as well to get those with adjustable resistance.
