James Malinchak's Get Rid Of The Drama Mamas
by Stanton Harper
There are particular kinds of people you have to look out for and avoid at every cost. These people will drain all your energy. You've got to watch out for the Drama Mamas. You know the people I'm talking about that create havoc in their path. These are the people who come in to your life and cause you nothing but drama, confusion, and stress. These drama mamas may be prospects; they may be customers, a number of them may be staff members, and some of them might be friends and family. Regardless of their relationships with you, you have to rid yourself of the drama mamas, and rid yourself fast.
Understand something that is of the highest importance: You let them into your life. You control how much time you spend with them. You've got the choice to keep them, limit them, or throw them out. Now, I know what you are saying. "No, it's not my fault. I can control other people like family or control who buys from me." Sure, you can. Face it, some clients and customers are just not worth the drama they bring with them into your business. There are things that you must do to control who you do business with because just like the analogy of it only taking one diseased cancer cell to destroy a body, it only takes one bad seed to ruin your whole business.
From time to time the drama mamas are stealthy. Everything appears peachy at first, then as time passes you hear rumors of drama. The drama mama tells one client one thing, then another. The next thing you know everybody is affected by this drama mama. Look out for the drama mamas, the people who are constantly causing drama and strife with you, with your staff members, and with your company. The best thing you could do is to choose not to work with them. Who needs all that drama anyway?
You might ask, "How do I cut them out of my life?" Ok, I get it. If your drama mama is your real life mama, then it can be more challenging. However, you can limit the time you spend with her. You can limit your conversations with her. You can redirect the negativity when she starts taking drama. You can step up and tell her that you do not want to hear the drama, but you would be happy to hear about the positive occurrences in her life. You can choose to say, "You know what, I realize that the other persons situation is interesting to you, but I want to know about you, not hear about other peoples drama." This the same thing you can say to family, friends, employees, and clients.
So say the least, if you have a staff member like this after one warning, cut them out. You don't need to pay people to cause strife in your life and your business. You're not under obligations to employ and keep employees that don't contribute to the future success of your company. Technically, you can't fire your friends and family, but maybe that's not such a terrible idea either! Personally, I've been known to fire clients. If you're a complainer and a whiner, move on with somebody else. I developed a business for my life, and if you don't have a philosophy for positivity, then I don't want you in my company. It might seem harsh, but the payoff for a negative customer is never worth keeping them. Be strong, quickly limit the drama mamas in your life!
