The Different Kinds Of LED Signs

LED signs are displays that use light-emitting diodes for an outdoor or indoor sign. They are usually used outside for store signs and billboards. Fairly recently LED text displays they have become used as destination signs for public transport vehicles. These are a lot more simple as they tend to use one color and the characters are formed in a matrix.

There are two different kinds of LED display. The first is the conventional type, and the other is a surface mounted panel. The conventional type can be used outside or inside a building and is built with discrete LEDs. These signs are also called individually mounted LED displays. These displays use a cluster of diodes in green, red and blue, and are driven together forming a pixel with a wide range of possible colors. These pixels are evenly spaced, which increases pixel resolution.

The largest LED sign in the world is over 500 meters in length and is situated in the Chinese city of Suzhou. It completely covers the Yuanrong Times Square. The largest LED TV in the world is the Center Hung Video Display at the Texas Cowboys Stadium, which is 11,520 square feet in size.

At least 2,000 cdm2 is required for the majority of outdoor signs, although higher-brightness LEDs of as much as 5,000 cdm2 are used to cope with direct sunlight on the screen.

There are are number of factors that determine where a large LED sign can be placed. These include, line of sight, local authority planning permissions, vehicle accessibility, locations of power cabling, power, ground stability and appropriate surfaces, and any overhead obstructions.

SMD technology is mostly used for the majority of indoor LED signs. They are are a single group of RGB diodes. They are usually connected to a computer which controls the sign. Each diode is tinier than a pin-head and are set very close to each other increasing the resolution of the display.
