Never-ending Strategies For Ezines That Increase Sales

by Mitali Deypurkaystha

E-commerce website owners all know how imperative email and marketing is when it comes to increasing sales. But most business men and women find it hard writing interesting emails for their email marketing campaign. They understand that regular contact with their subscribers is important, but they worry that their emails are too sales orientated and will ultimately annoy their subscribers.

In previous articles I have taught you how to write subject lines that get emails opened and how to write email openers that virtually force your subscribers to read through your entire email. Today I am going to teach you how to create the 'body' content of your emails. This is the bulk of the email content and it is the final part of the jigsaw when it comes to the success of your email follow up messages.

The first thing you need to understand is the purpose of your email is three fold.

1) Trust needs to be slowly created between you and your subscribers. They need to have a relationship with you.

2) Strive to educate your subscriber Your subscriber opted into your list (either because they bought something in the past or opted in to receiving more information) because they have an objective to achieve. If your emails educate them regarding getting closer to this objective, they're likely to buy your products and services (or buy again!)

3) Your email must sell your products. Make no bones about it building an email list of subscribers isn't much use if you don't offer them anything to buy. You must sell to them but not in such a blatant way that they feel aggressively marketed to.

The following template will enable you to market your products, educate your subscribers and build a relationship with them.......

STEP ONE Go to http://www.google.com/alerts and set up an alert for your niche, industry or topic. What will happen is Google will email you once a day with the latest news in your niche. For example if you owned a men's fashion web site you might set up an 'alert' for the keyword 'men's fashion' or even 'celebrity fashion'.

STEP TWO When Google sends you the email with links to the latest news visit the news stories, videos, blogs and so on have a look through the stories and see which stories could be linked to your subscribers dreams, goals and fears.

For example: An e-commerce site selling men's clothes could look at alerts regarding articles of male stars and what they have worn recently to parties, promotional tours etc.

STEP THREE Write a short synopsis for one of these news items

STEP FOUR Educate the subscriber about what is good and bad about the news story. What the person or company is doing right or wrong. Help them to understand how to experience the same success or avoid the same mistakes as in the news story. Align the story with your subscribers dreams, wants and fears. Make it relevant to them and the journey that they are going on with you.

E.g. for the men's designer site.... 'The smart-casual look sported by Brad Pitt at the Golden Globes was the perfect mix, with his jeans and smart blazer combination. Its difficult to pull off the smart-casual look but Johnny managed to do that and cement his position as one of the most attractive man in the world'.

STEP FIVE Link the story to your products and services. At the end of the story offer your products and services that are as closely related to the story (and the result your subscribers want) as possible.

For example.... 'The great news is that even though we can't make you look like Brad Pitt we can certainly provide you with the same style as him. Check out our designer white shirt here www.example.com and our stylish ripped jeans here www.example.com'

STEP SIX You don't want your email to end on a product placement as it may be too 'marketing'..........instead summarise the email message so you are back to 'teaching'.

E.g. Who wouldn't want to look like Brad Pitt? Money, recognition, attractiveness.........but you can definitely emulate his fashion! Till next time, Men's Style Council'

Using stories related to your niche is just one way to come up with ideas for your newsletter content. Other ways are seasonal content, such as writing about Christmas and linking it to your Xmas sale, personal experiences and anecdotes and much more. Using Google Alerts to have content ideas sent to you though is a great place to start.
