We need to know what ITIL is before we can get into the detail and nitty gritty of what is best practice and the tips you need to write the exam. There are numerous IT Service Management Frameworks but ITIL is the most popular and followed framework world-wide.
Adopting the ITIL framework, as has been done by countless corporations all over the world, businesses are able to run more effectively and efficiently when it comes to IT Management. By embracing the ITIL processes the benefits of cost reduction, reduced time to market, increased customer satisfaction and an overall improvement in the provisioning of IT services can easily be achieved in a small period of time
The ITIL version 3 foundation level certification exam is an exam with multiple choices. It takes approximately 1 hour to complete. To pass the exam you need to answer 26 questions correctly out of 40 questions that is equivalent to a 65%. It's estimated that 95% of those prepared to take the test, pass. What makes it hard is that the 40 questions are selected from 5 different books.
To pass this exam you must know which processes belong to which topic and what each process consists of in terms of the various activities. Each process and activity has an owner so you must also know which owner is in charge of which activity and process. The Foundation exam is more about terminology that a thorough understanding of the terminology itself. Ensure that you know the key phrases and what the benefits that can be obtained from each process but most importantly ensure that you know how the processes work together.
The majority of the questions are regarding the process itself. Only a few questions will ask about people, mainly on the service desk, and technology. Write initial answers on the actual exam question paper, and mark answers on the generic exam when you are finished. Make sure to mark the correct answers with a pencil. Be very careful when you erase your mark off an incorrect question.
Answer the paper at a pace that is comfortable for you and don't pay attention to others in the room who will possibly distract you. Always answer the questions that you have an immediate answer for and then return to those questions you were unsure about afterwards. These basic and simple tips will assist you in passing the exam.
