Do Not Overlook Website Security

by Joe Wilson

Your newly born online business needs a website security to prevent website bugs, including hackers. Website security must be given utmost priority specifically for e-commerce website. Hackers are always searching for an opportunity to enter your system and gain access to your personal data. This not only affects the online business customer base, but also adversely affects sales. For this reason, regular vulnerable audits are required. A vulnerable assessment interrogates the components of the operating system and exposes detailed list of plaguing issues.

It is definitely vital for your website security. But what are vulnerabilities? Vulnerabilities are the hidden doors, the weak points on the inside or the perimeter of the network, which are infected by hackers. These vulnerabilities are classified on the basis of the ease to exploit them. The main phrase is accessibility. Once their illegal attempts to enter, is successful, the attackers are free to access anything, even your bank account details. Thus website security minimizes this great risk. For any online business to flourish, trust factor is vital to increase conversion rates.

For example if it starts like MD5, then it becomes difficult to read and hard to hack. Secondly, it maybe tempting to do without user names or in certain cases, busy users just choose 'admin'. This should definitely be avoided. If an online criminal has to work hard to decipher the user name and password, then he is less likely to get through. Thirdly, when you are trying to upload any picture then check whether it is in jpg, gif etc format. Once it is done rename the file to hide it. Fourthly, it is not wise to access the uploaded images, directly.

If the hacker needs to upload image, he will have to search the stored area, but if a hard coded upload directory is used through picture resizing routine, then he will keep on searching in vain. Also, if while logging in there continuously appears a failure message, then quickly send yourself an email. If any hacking process is going on, then your inbox will be suddenly filled up. In this case, it is better to keep your account locked out for an hour. Identify your website audience.

Secondly, while logging in give a unique username instead of 'admin'. If the hacker has to crack it for long, then he will assuredly not get through. Also, while uploading images, take care to rename the jpg or gif files. So that when the scammer tries to access them, he cannot find them. Finally, an important consideration here is that, take time to select the web host type. Do some researches work before incorporating a web host.
