Is Search Engine Optimization Realistic?

by Amparo Dillon

SEO has been in existence for a long while. It has become so popular because the internet is growing at a rapid pace which also means that search engines are becoming more advanced. Getting ranked by the search engines is a science which is known as SEO and it has evolved greatly over the past few years. And when something grows huge, there is a lot of misinformation floating around that you should aware of. The majority of the stories floating around about SEO may seem quite forbidding and real, however, they are simply stories. Some of these stories will be proven wrong in this article.

You must work at optimizing long tail keywords so that you can rank highly. Many articles, courses and forum posts have repeated this myth over the years. But no, you don't need to do any optimization work for the long tail keyword phrases, mainly because they are already uncompetitive and not many people are searching for these keywords in the search engines. You can rank for long tail keywords without much effort. You don't have to optimize, you only have to insert these keywords somewhere on your website. There's nothing else you need to do. Long tail keywords are worth targeting because you don't have to spend time on optimization for them.

Another myth that a majority of the people like believing in is using the words in your Meta tag should be used on that particular page. While this is a myth, it is still widely believed and taught by SEO professionals. The real purpose of Meta tags was to find and use keywords not already on a page, not the other way around. But the main point is, Google doesn't really count this tag anymore and Yahoo! uses it for other not so important purposes, which doesn't make a difference in the first place.

Some people believe another common fallacy which is that if you update your site frequently with fresh content it has a great benefit on your SERP rankings. While updating your site regularly with fresh content may lead to spiders crawling your site more frequently, it will have virtually no effect on your rankings. So if your site doesn't really need an update, then don't forcefully make the change just for the search engines. It will have little effect on them. A little searching will reveal that many top ranking websites in popular niches haven't been updated in ages.

Generally speaking, no matter how much effort you need to put into SEO, which requires quite a bit of work, it's worth every moment. The best way to learn it is through experience, rather than believe these myths that aren't true.

We have only discussed three aspects on <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30Gp0-IXUYo">Exit Plan Profits</a> in your web business, and to be sure there is much more to the story you need to learn on your own.
