Today Choose A Documentary On Education

After the school reform in 2008, people got more concerned about the entire situation in public schools. Documentary on education became a popular choice to a much wider audience than it used to be. Shocking and disturbing, those movies are raising public consciousness about society issues.

Failing schools became a top story when people have found out about them. Public high schools became dropout factories, and people want to know more about it. Poor children and their struggle for a place in a better school as their only way of escape became a central point in movies.

Waiting for Superman, a film by Davis Guggenheim, is a depressing story about five families searching for better school for their children. Poor as they are, they just cannot afford to pay for their good education, and public system won't allow them to become somebody otherwise. The only way to succeed is to have a winning number in a school lottery.

Another movie with similar subject is The Lottery, by young director Madeleine Sackler. She became interested in this subject after the last school reform, in 2008. Better look at the situation uncovered the sad situation with mentioned school lottery. Parents are desperately trying to give a chance for a better life to their kids.

In The Lottery, the main goal is to go to Harlem Success Academy. Poor children have numbers, and there are so many applicants that their chances are poor as they are. It is a disturbing and sad movie. Normal, quality education is the only way for those children to escape and have a normal life.
