Marketing On Twitter - Is It A Profitable Way Of List Building?

Several years ago, there was a great promotion for Twitter marketing tools. It was considered that you could use Twitter as an effective means to grow a list of likely customers for your products or services. But the question is, were any of those programs that were promoted, actually doing you any good? Exactly how great is Twitter marketing? This article will examine the case for becoming involved and to see if it will actually repay your time and effort.

Like many of you, when all the tools came out to help folks build a big Twitter following that you could promote to, I decided to look into it. Not only did I pay to join programs that would bring me followers but I invested in a few softwares to help promote the products I was selling. All in all, I ended up paying for about eight different programs that would aid me with all of this.

One of these programs was an automatic 'people follower' on Twitter with the intention that some of those people would follow me in return. If someone was not following me, I had another program that would automatically remove them from my to-follow list. This would enable me to follow different Twitter users once more to get them to follow me. Amongst other software I got hold of, there was one which automatically tweeted a blog post just as soon as it was posted to my blog. And when I started using all of these programs the results seemed to be astounding as they all did just what they said they would do. I was speedily brought down to earth when I looked at my spreadsheet and found that I wasn't actually pulling in any money! I would post to my blog 10 times each day and those blog posts would be displayed directly on Twitter just like they are supposed to. Aiming to increase the number of daily posts, I discovered a way to automatically post any number of entries to my blog and hopefully obtain more followers on Twitter.

So allow me to tell you all about my results. In three years, I was able to build a Twitter following of roughly ten thousand people. And while you may think that is terrific, there's more. During those three years I had affiliate links to my products on more than fifteen thousand posts in my Twitter account. Besides that, I did no other promotion for that blog, in fact I didn't even ping the new blog entries to discover how good Twitter was could be. Precisely how 'good' it was rapidly became apparent: after 3 years only two affiliate sales generated $46.74 plus a whopping $9.10 for Adsense. With just 2 - 4 visits per day originating from Twitter, maybe this is not surprising.

Despite me employing programs to make the job simpler and gaining approximately 10,000 followers on Twitter, I still could not turn a realistic profit using Twitter marketing for my blog. As a matter of fact, in the last 3 years I have not even pulled in enough money from that blog to pay for the Twitter programs that I had paid for. There might be other better methods of promoting on Twitter, but from my experience, using automatic software tools is not one of them.
