Unlike religions have unlike ideas about death and what comes after. Some desire to enter heaven, others in reincarnation. Because of these dissimilar teachings, people from all over the world practice their funeral customs quite differently from others. Despite the variations, still, all these funeral ceremonies focus on grieving and praying for the soul of the departed.
The Typical Christian Funeral Ceremony.
The Christian ceremony, for example, has its differences with the funeral customs of other spiritual sectors. It follows the duties and the rules of the Church. The distinctive Christian funeral includes the viewing, a funeral ceremony, the burial or cremation, and memorial services.
After a person pass away, his body must be ready and temporarily preserved in accordance to the Christian laws and customs. It then shall be open for other people to visit it at home or at the funeral chapel and say their prayers for the deceased. Moreover, the wake is commonly attended by a group of people that recites prayers for the soul of the departed. This part of the funeral practice is the wake. The wake normally lasts from 3-5 days, depending on the number of guests and the financial circumstances of the family.
The funeral follows, where the dead is carried to a Church for the funeral mass. In some cultures, the coffin is transported by a funeral vehicle and trailed by a procession of the deceased's family and friends. The funeral rite also involves a eulogy or tribute from a friend or family member. Some christian communities close the ceremony by ringing a bell.
The casket is transported to the interment grounds when the funeral mass is concluded. This is the final opportunity for friends and the family to see and bid farewell to the person. Other tributes such as military honors are observed if the deceased is in the military. A memorial can likewise be held days, months, or years after the burial. These commemoration events are important in the process of healing and acceptance for the family.
