What To Know About Veteran Donations
by Kerri Turner
The term used to describe donations that are issued to an organization for the purpose of benefiting military veterans is known as veteran donations. These gifts come in different forms and are used to assist both former service members and their close loved ones. In some cases, this kind of charity goes toward supporting individuals who have served a long time in the field, been wounded or killed and leave behind families.
There are many organizations that accept these kinds of donations. Typically they are not-for-profit groups. Generally, what is donated is considered as tax deductible. Some of the most common contributions include endowments, planned gifts, goods, vehicles and money.
A reality is that many veterans, who have served the country for years, find themselves needing assistance after returning to their normal lives. Likewise, those who are killed while serving leave behind families that are in need. Other times, these individuals suffer with serious health problems that are a result of their time in service. Contributions may also go toward paying for medical expenses. Former service men or women who are homeless and cannot find work may need help as well. For all of these situations, gifts of this kind prove extremely beneficial.
Patrons who want to show their appreciation, respect or concern for the brave service people who help protect their country are often the individuals who contribute to these organizations. There are many programs that allow for annual gifts to be given. Some even provide memberships to those interested in giving more than one donation.
Others may choose to give one large donation or something small, as much as they can. Dry goods, canned goods, vehicles, clothing and other items are just as good as money in these situations, as all that is given can be applied where it is needed. The size or type of donation that is given is completely the choice of the giver and is a matter of choice, not requirement.
People who are interested in giving can search online or through other resources for organizations that are for veterans. It is essential that the organization is researched and givers know that their gifts are going to who they are intended. There are many non-profits with the goal of supporting vets, even organizations focused on a certain cause. The giver has the choice of what group they trust to donate to.
Many of the programs that give support to vets also have programs set up for members currently serving in the force. In either case, these organizations are aimed at returning the favor that these people have given to the country. That is, protecting it and maintaining their freedom.
