How To Earn More From Your Website

by Abigail Patton

A business website should have the right design elements if you want to maximize your profits. It's not like you can put just anything up, never updating it, and then think you'll make good money from it. Not much in IM is as simple as it may appear to you. But creating a site that is effective for your business doesn't need to be hard. Your site can have a greatly increased impact on your visitors with some time, knowledge, and a little effort. Here are some things you can do right now.

Search for your competitors and take a look at some of their sites. Do these sites have any qualities that you admire? What do you dislike about these websites? Pretend you are an ordinary person surfing the internet; how likely would you be to buy something from it? Why? If no, what turns you off about the site? This process can help you discover what you want to do, and what you want to avoid when creating your site. By putting yourself in a customer's shoes, you can better figure out how to design a good site yourself. Your website should have qualities that would make you want to purchase something from it; otherwise, how can you expect other people to like your site and buy from it? Use this process of browsing like a customer to figure out if your website will motivate people to buy from you.

Make your fonts attractive and eye-catching, but don't use too many different ones. It's common for newbies at website building to use many different kinds of fonts. Using a wide variety of fonts, however, makes your text more difficult to read. It's fine to use a couple of different fonts, but if you go beyond this, your site will look amateurish. Whatever fonts you do choose, make sure that they are easy on the eyes of visitors. Anything too curly, swirly or based on pictures is a bad idea. If the purpose of your site is to sell products or services, people have to be able to easily read it. Having your site readable is more important than impressing people with your creativity.

Keep aware and always make sure you're maintaining a reasonable percentage of both informational copy and sales copy. You'll want to avoid turning-off people, so do not have an over-abundance of copy devoted to selling. It's pretty simple because if you hammer them with sales copy, then they'll just go away and abandon your site forever. A good ratio is seventy five percent editorializing and entertaining content to twenty five percent sales text. Gentle selling will almost always have more success than aggressive selling, and you want the reader to trust you. You want the reader to keep reading all the way to the end of the page where they will find a way to buy your product. Violating all of these principles creates a feeling of alienation, and that will not make any sales.

Making money online does not have to be difficult. If your site and marketing are good enough, you can sell to almost anyone - almost. As you know, making your site look as good as it can will depend on your efforts. If it helps get you going... just know that the more effort you give to your site, the more money you'll end up with in your pocket. Making sure your website is good is mostly common sense but following the tips in this article certainly won't hurt!
