Issues Regarding Establishment Of The Medical Marijuana Pharmacy

Most people are aware of the controversies regarding the establishment of a medical marijuana pharmacy. Many acceptable arguments have been made on both sides of this controversy, and these arguments are coming from doctors, patients, lawmakers, and the general public. An individual perspective on the topic often comes largely from their own personal experience with the substance.

There is some evidence that cannabis is useful in the treatment of several conditions. It has been used to help patients with AIDS, cancer, glaucoma, and MS. Those patients who have experienced benefits certainly swear by the treatment, and their doctors accept what they have to say about it. Many in the scientific community do believe that further testing and study is warranted.

Patients who suffer digestive problems as a result of chemotherapy are sometimes prescribed it. In fact, there is a growing number of people who claim that their cancers were actually cured by hemp oil alone, even when they were in the final stages of their cancer. Many people are outraged over the fact that the parties involved in providing this hemp oil were arrested and charged with felonies.

There are those in government who are very outspoken regarding their feelings, stating that the laws themselves should be repealed. Others state simply that it is a gateway drug. The other end of the spectrum believes that legalizing or even decriminalizing would only serve to encourage substance abuse, and that it sets a dangerous precedent.

Possibly the most dangerous aspect of this controversy is the argument between state rights and the laws of the Federal government. Several states have passed laws allowing for the medicinal manufacture, distribution, and use of cannabis. In many instances, the dispensaries have been raided by Federal agents, and those running the business have been incarcerated even though they were conducting what their state regards as a lawful business.

The fact is, hemp was used previously for a number of things including clothing, paper, and medicine. It was a giant cash crop for both North and South America at one time, and was one of the biggest exports in the sixteenth century. There were twentieth century propaganda films released depicting it as dangerous, and those films were released by the pharmaceutical industry, making many question what their agenda really was.

There is also the costly war on drugs which has been waged for more than twenty years, and many in government believe this has been an utter failure. Some say that it criminalizes average citizens, and empowers criminals to engage in a destructive black market trade in the substance. This issue becomes even more inflammatory when the citizens incarcerated are patients suffering from cancer, AIDS, MS, or any of a number of other conditions which it is believed to provide relief from.

In spite of this, the controversy is still a real hot topic. Some claim it is good medicine and others claim it simply turns a blind eye to drug abuse.
