What You Need To Know About Home Theater Systems
by Bill Heath
There's a good chance that even back in the day, you wanted to watch your movies at home without sacrificing any audio or video quality available at theaters. But now it is thanks to home theater systems and you can't wait to get one for your living room. A home theater system could allow you to feel like you're in a real theater, only without the long lines and noisy, obnoxious moviegoers who sometimes reveal spoilers just when the action is getting good.
In the not too distant past, if you wanted to catch a movie, you had to get ready to go out, get in your car and drive until you arrived at the theater. Then you had to stand in line to pay an outrageous sum for a ticket. Once you got your ticket, if you wanted a soda and a snack, you had wait in yet another line and practically take out a second mortgage to cover the cost of the snacks.
And as you'd grope your way into the theater, you'd find your seat, squinting to see the seat number and hoping some bozo didn't leave some rubbish on the seats or cup holders. Just as it began, in walks a family with a little one who just couldn't keep quiet no matter how many times he was shushed.
Time and again, your ability to see and hear the movie was interrupted by someone leaving and returning with the crying child. The entire experience is enough to leave you feeling very frustrated and cheated. A home movie theater bypasses all of that frustration.
You'll want a home theater system that delivers the maximum in surround sound, so you'll want to make sure if you're buying the system as a set that it comes with top of the line speakers.
If you get a cheaper sound system, you may only get two speakers, which won't cut it. It would be better to go with four or five speaker systems at the very least, because sound gets divided more equally through these speakers, giving a more pleasant-sounding effect. Obviously, the more speakers you have, the better the surround sound. Six speakers can give you an even better end result.
When it comes to screen selection, you do not want to buy the cheapest one you can afford. Don't be afraid to spend on getting something of top quality. Don't go with screens that are less than 27 inches. You would want to get something of such a high quality because you want the detail in a person's face to be as high resolution as possible. There is no substitute for exquisite detail on a TV screen.
The second main part of your home theater system experience would be surround sound, so make sure you get a good receiver. There are receivers that contain several unique components that you would need, while others would require you to buy the parts separately. Depending on which option you choose and depending on the actual components, a receiver can cost you as low as several hundred dollars, but some can cost several thousands.
