Finding The Right Diamond Ring For Your Loved One
by Tyler Brotheridge
There are many reasons to purchase a diamond ring but the most obvious is as a declaration of love and affection, whether it be as an engagement ring or simply a reminder to your beloved that you still care about them. Finding the right diamond ring for the right person though is a fraught task indeed and the short guide below strives to help in alleviating that burden somewhat. The diamond itself is the major concern to consider with your diamond ring and there are a list of factors to take into consideration before you even step foot into a jewelers.
The carat refers to the diamonds weight and size of the diamond as is measured by a specifically engineered point system that matches 100 points to a single carat. This means smaller diamonds such as quarter carat diamonds can still be measured and sold at the right price with quarter-carat diamonds rated at 25 points, one and a half carat diamonds rated at 150 points and so on and so forth. The majority of diamond rings will contain diamonds between 1 and 2 caret.
Round shaped diamonds are the most popular but also the most expensive diamonds as they are generally harder to shape and are purer and larger than other diamonds. A Square 'Princess' diamond is a popular alternative to the round shape as it has similarly refractive purposes but is less expensive. Other more extravagant and less expensive shapes available include the 'Marquise' (a narrow, lengthy shape), the 'Heart' shape, the 'Oval' shape and the 'Pear' shape. 'Emerald' and 'Princess' shapes meanwhile are incredibly detailed and more specialist than the more commonly shaped diamonds.
The diamonds clarity is a reference to the amount of inclusions on the inside of the diamond. Inclusions are what we call the cloudy imperfections that you'll find in most diamonds under magnification very few inclusions are visible to the naked eye). Clarity is rated from Flawless to Included with pricing set to match. Finally the colour of the diamond is (as with clarity) graded on a sliding scale from D up to Z (colourless to obviously coloured) with the general rule being the whiter the diamond, the higher the price.
As well as the diamond itself, when purchasing your diamond ring you will need to take the band itself into consideration and the options range from multi-stone to single stone options to a variety of setting options and even various choices of fine metal for the band. Whatever your choice though, make sure you do your research before splashing out on a diamond ring, there are sharks out there who will take advantage of uniformed individuals.
