Maybe the thought of spying on your competition all the time seems bizarre to you. Following them around so you know every video they watch or forum they post to may be going to extremes. You can also become a follower of those competing with you, as this will give you great insight as to their approach as well as what they're offering. You should also take advantage of The Free Library. If you don't have time to visit your local library, this gives you a very good online substitute. In fact, it's not likely that your local library has nearly as many resources as can be found here. It has a search feature that allows you to look up anything you want, whether it be a topic, competitor's name or type of product. This is a free resource. When you are building your business, free is the best cost available. It allows you to look through books and periodicals.
If financial information about your competition is what you're after, the best place to look is Google Finance. You will be able to use this more effectively if you are looking into larger businesses. Financial information that has been filed by businesses can be found on this site. If any blog posts, news stories or press releases regarding the company are available, you'll find them here as well. If your competitors are individuals and small businesses, you probably won't find out much about them here. On the other hand, larger internet marketing companies who are competing on a larger scale will find this quite useful.
Learning about your competition can be accomplished in a variety of ways. Using a search engine will probably get you some information, though it may not be enough. If you want more in depth information, however, there are other tools that you can use. While you want to learn all you can, you don't want to spend your whole day doing this. Working on your own business takes plenty of time as well. On the other hand, knowing what your competitors are doing has to be considered when you operate your own business. The more you know about them the better off you will be!
