Scambook: The Pot Calling the Kettles Black

It is a routine human error to judge one's fellow man. In Christian tradition, this is successfully explained Matthew 7:5, which says, "You hypocrite, 1st remove the plank from out of your own eye, and then you'll view clearly enough in order to take out the speck from your fellow man's eye. Christ himself also stood up to an enraged mob and told them, "Let he who is without sin cast the very 1st stone." And yet human beings insist on judging each other although too impaired to do so.

<a href="http://scambookscam.com/">Such is the case of scambook - a website that portrays itself as a "free community" - but is in reality a "free to calumny" site</a>. The business model of this site is simple, and it can be compared to the typical bully taking the kid's lunch money under threat of a beating. If a business agrees to give scambook.com $500 a month, scambook will leave that business alone. However, once targeted by this site, if a business does not pay up, then they will be vilified by slanted reports of dubious source, causing that business a loss of reputation, revenue and public esteem.

BBB thinks Scambook is a scam!

For a site that advertises itself as a defender of business ethics, Scambook actually has an F rating with the BBB! It also gets a "not accredited" listing, and an alert is even put on the BBB webpage!

How does Scambook go after companies?

The site targets companies who depend upon their reputation to do business. Usually the primary target consists of companies that have a membership model - the type of company that asks members to pay a monthly fee in exchange for a service. It then begins a methodical mudslinging campaign against that company or site. One such company was harassed to the point where the owner killed himself. Another started a whole website devoted to fighting this scam - Google scambookscam (one word).

I personally know of a website that has a perfect rating with the BBB, has thousands of testimonials, and receives no complaints on its practices on the more popular complaint sites RipoffReport.com and Complaintsboard.com. This same website has suddenly begun receiving dozens of scambook complaints per month.

Complaints not validated, and never removed

A business owner subjected himself through the pain of paying Scambook the $500 per month fee and getting in touch with the individual who complained about his business. Still, they refused to take down the complaint by asserting that it is not in its policy to remove any complaints.
