A Guide To Collecting Horse Figures

by Lela Perkins

Horses are very popular animals. They have a special place in our lives. They have a role in our entertainment, as evidenced by the popularity of horse racing and rodeos. And they also are kept as pets by many people, and treated just like members of the family. Let's not forget the role they have on films and television too. Therefore, it shouldn't really come as much of a surprise to know that collectible horse figures are popular among horse lovers.

If you have an affinity towards a certain breed, one that is not very well known, then you'll most likely have to ask around if you want a statue or ornament of it. There are over 300 breed of horses, so the only way to get a realistic statue could be to consult someone that knows exactly what you're after.

If you have a decent sized collection of figures then maybe all you're missing is a display case for them all. Case come in different sizes, but what's important is picking one that can house your collection. Also consider what room the cabinet is going in, as picking a room that is too small for the case won't help the situation.

Many people decide to use their display to reenact scenes from the old west, while some like to have figurines of horse-drawn carriages as a way to acknowledge the historical importance of horses. What you decide will depend on personal preference.

Those that are new to collecting are in the unique position where they can actually look at things from scratch and decide exactly how they'd like the collection to look. This is where your love of certain breeds might come into play. The choices you make could also depend on how much you have to spend, the types of material you like, or even other preferences. For instance, you might like a certain artist, or only like ornaments of a certain size.

When adding to or starting a collection, sometimes not enough consideration is given to the aesthetics. For instance, you might be a huge fan of pewter and crystal. But think about if these types of figurines really would look good in the same display case. Think about your budget too when making the decisions, as pewter is cheaper then crystal and more durable.

If you are the type that likes to keep an open mind, then you might well be interested in making your own ornaments. There are a number of reasons to do this. Perhaps you could make them for Christmas instead of buying friends presents. It's cheap and you can enroll children to help you. You might balk at making presents for people so perhaps a better idea is to make figurines to put on your Christmas tree.

Many people appreciate the role of horses over the years. However, the ones that truly love them usually have horse figures all over their home. Whilst the material you use isn't really important, it's a good idea to actually think about all the advantages and disadvantages before you start collecting. You can do it yourself or buy from stores. However, for a change you could make your own horse jewelry, such as bracelets and charms.
