Google's First SEO Update In 2013 Is A Panda Refresh

by Froilan Gauss

The Google Panda update of 2011 was a watershed moment for the SEO world on the whole. The main purpose of the Panda release was to guarantee that search results show truly content rich portals as opposed to portals that play on the technical side of SEO to get good search engine rankings.

The effects of this update, which improved the quality of websites on the internet, was widespread as it affected over 12 % of search engine results. The Google Panda release ended up impacting all portals that were using technical loopholes in Google's algorithm. As a matter of fact, Google Panda affected so many different portals that most website administrators and SEO experts are now fearful of every new change from Google.

Still, it appears that earthshaking internet marketing algorithm modifications from Google are not as common as most SEO experts offering numerous SEO services believe it to be.

Still, a large majority of modifications released by Google tend to be reviews of older modifications. This is visible in the New Year also. The 1st Google algorithm modification in the year of 2013 was an update of the landscape changing Google Panda release. In fact, since Google released its two major updates in the form of Panda and Penguin, it has been systematically trying to make better the algorithmic releases in a bid to make their effect more measured.

Since the arrival of the Panda update in the SEO world. Google has been systematically trying to amend it with refresh modifications. It has succeeded because the algorithm modifications are now more balanced. How the initial updates from Google impacted portals and how they recovered from the initial demolition is best seen by assessing the fate of Squidoo. While the search positions of Squidoo was affected badly with the first release, it has since managed to recover ground and now displays good positions. In effect, while it is true that worries of new updates from Google are founded on emotions, it should also be seen that some releases from Google in reality turn out to be beneficial for portals and various SEO professionals. Moreover, patterns show that launches like Panda and Penguin are few and far between.
