Copper Nickel (CuNi) alloys are famous for its excellent resistance to seawater corrosion and biofouling. To make it even more ductile and optimise the alloy's corrosion resistance in seawater, a few amount of iron and manganese are often added to CuNi alloys. Given these qualities, CuNi alloys are widely used in several marine applications such as offshore fire water system, heat exchangers and condensers, hydraulic lines, sheathing of legs and risers on offshore platforms desalination units, and many more.

This combination proved to have better resistance to corrosion. Thirty years after, a 90-10 CuNi alloy became available primarily to be used in seawater piping systems. Both the 70/30 and the 90/10 CuNi are widely used in the industry.
