You are probably going to make a few copywriting mistakes, especially when you are first beginning. As long as you know the mistakes, however, you're less likely to make them. Practice writing copy first before you actually start, because that will help you create great copy. You will soon know which copywriting mistakes to avoid.
A huge mistake is when the copywriter doesn't know anything about the product he's writing about. Your prospects are smart, so if you don't know much about your product, they'll easily figure it out. In other terms, people are less likely to buy from you if you know nothing regarding what you're writing about. Your prospects want you to be professional, and that's why you should learn as much as possible about the product before writing about it. This is why you need to really become familiar with your product so that you can write copy to sell it. The best way to make your sales copy succeed is to be absolutely clear on a product, and studying that product is the only way. You must be able to clarify the product to prospects if you hope for them to spend their money.
The second largest blunder committed by copywriters is creating copy that doesn't grip the reader's focus. Grabbing immediate attention is extremely important if you want your copy to go anywhere. There are many direct response sales copies out there that don't have an effective headline, which obviously affects the whole performance of your sales letter. Make good use of your time, as you only have a few moments to grab your prospect and make them excited about your product or service. If you don't put your unique selling point in your title, your reader may not know what it is and they might not buy. It's a bad idea to make your copy suspenseful as far as benefits go, and instead you'll want to include them as soon as possible. The worse headlines are the ones that are overly long and don't grab the buyer. If it has too many words, it diminishes in effectiveness.
Your copy should always include a P.S., even though it sounds simplistic. You should have at least 2 post scripts or P.S. as they help the prospect finally reach their decision and grab attention of the reader just like the headline. Some people haven't made up their minds and the P.S.s remind them of everything you pointed out, and so they turn into buyers. You can use your initial P.S. to describe how you're different than everyone else, and the next P.S. can bring up the critical points again. Just by including a P.S., you can make more sales. So don't make the mistake of leaving them out because you don't think they're important.
You should keep your copy professional if you want to achieve good results and plenty of sales. Avoid any type of silly mistakes that may affect your overall performance.
