Resin Anchors - Finest For High Load Fixing
by Shannon L Smith
Looking for heavy duty fixing on concrete surface? Consider anchors and bolts. They provide the best solution in high load fitting solution since they are long lasting with higher strength. Anchor bolts are intensely used in civil and construction projects. Variety of anchor bolts with respect to size and design are available in market for several tasks. The smaller-sized anchor bolts might be for the simple shelf fixing to keep the heavy load. Whereas, there might be very large ones that are used in complex conditions of heavy load when it is applied at numerous directions but acts only one direction at a time. A fence post attached to concrete floor using anchor bolts and metal bracket can be an example of this case.
If the wind is high it will affect the fence post to move in opposite direction. Anchor bolts are perfect in this case to utilize which provide strength to bear the wind power and maintain the fence post attached to floor.
Anchor bolts are simple to implement in any project. They consist of only two parts, bolts and the anchor itself. You need to drill a hole on the desired surface. Place anchor inside hole and put the fixing over it (like the fence in the above case). Now insert the bolt through your fixing and tighten it. This will cause the anchor fixing to enlarge in the hole to place the bolt safely and firmly. They are big in sizes and made of strong metals and that's why, they are far better than screws and rawl plugs.
However, in circumstances where extreme of heavy duty fitting is required, anchors and bolts are not just enough to handle the job. For instance, the building industry, in which fitting is required to meet the ultimate conditions. Chemical or resin anchor is the solution in these situations.
'Resin anchor' is a term used generally for the steel studs, bolts and anchors bonding with the substrate surface (that is usually, brick, masonry or concrete). For bonding them to meet the extreme strength requirement, a resin adhesive is applied in between them. Almost all the huge construction projects execute this solution.
The resin anchor is a two part mix; resin and the hardener. They are mixed together before injecting in the drilled hole. The adhesive is placed till the hole is completely filled with it. Now, the anchor is placed inside this adhesive filled hole. When the resin hardens, the resulting bond is stronger than the substrate it has gone into. However, it is necessary to keep the anchor upright till the resin is fully set.
Although, all resin anchors work on same principles but there are few blend formulations, chemical extracts and designing solutions which together acts for specified performance in special applications. In virtually all the cases where resin anchor is applied, these properties must be considered: - The resulting bond with the resin adhesive must be stronger as compared to base material i.e. concrete surface mostly. - The system is based on chemical adhesion. Therefore, no load stress is affecting to the base material and it's suitable for the close-to-edge fixing. Consistent high load performance is a main requirement in construction and civil industry and resin anchors offer a vital part in providing the solution for this pre-requisite.
