Professional marketing refers to the activity, collection of institutions, and processes used to create, communicate, deliver and exchange offers that are of value to customers, partners and society as a whole. For the business-to-consumer model, it is a process in which companies develop value for customers and build strong relationships in an effort to capture value from the customer in return. With the business-to-business method, this process is about creating solutions, relationships and short or long relationships with a brand or company.

Adding in these techniques and strategies forces businesses to become more focused on the customers, their perceived needs and wants, instead of production. Over the years, this field has changed alongside consumer tastes. Earlier approaches saw four orientations: production, product, selling, marketing. Production orientation firms specialized in the producing a given service or product. The product orientation method was centered on quality of the product. Firms that employed selling orientation were concerned with the selling or promotion of a specific product and not figuring out the desires of consumers. Firms that applied the concept of supplying products that fit the taste of all new consumers used what was called marketing orientation.
There are many different contemporary approaches applied. These include: social, affiliate, personalized, relationship, Internet, and industrial or business. The new approaches usually take on advanced technology in an effort to carry out the work required.
Firms that function in the market economy are capable of surviving because they produce goods that people are willing and capable of purchasing. Therefore, learning the demands of the consumer plays a major role in the viability of a firm. Most businesses today strive to have a primary focus on the consumer, and so, products and activities are based on the demands made by said consumers.
Marketing research is a process where research is completed to support certain actions and data is turned into information. Then, this information is applied by managers and other professionals in order to plan activities, collect information from suppliers and gauge the overall environment. Researchers may apply a variety of methods in order to convert data into information, making sense of all findings. Some commonly used methods: poisson distributions, linear regression and hypothesis tests.
Planning is accomplished by analyzing buying behaviors, consumer demands, research and other related information. Often, this process involves setting up activities that relate to a specific product and the objective of the company. The general planning process is based on the business strategy.
Professional marketing is a strategy most commonly used in the field of business. It is essentially the act of promoting a service or product to society as a whole, including other businesses, partners and consumers. Many activities and processes go into this. Over the years, the focus has shifted to the consumer and utilizing various technologies to study, communicate and build relationships with customers, as well as analyze the field.
