Musings Regarding Black Friday Websites

If by chance you are a resident of the United states, then at some point you have likely gotten on the internet to do a search for the phrase Black Friday. And you probably did this around the season of thanksgiving or Christmas in anticipation of one of the biggest shopping days of the year, if not the biggest. And when you performed said search you probably saw many websites that call themselves the official black Friday website.

What would your reaction be if you were to see, say, five of the ten websites listed as each being the 'official' Black Friday site? It would probably be the same as mine. You would probably say, "Hey now, what's going on?" Because you know that they all can't be the official site. Indeed, it would probably be the clue that there is no official web site for Black Friday.

But it is clear why we find a world wid web on the internet with so many distinct sites who all claim to be the official one for such an event as Black Friday. You see, Black Friday is not a brand owned by a single company or organization. It is more like a holiday shared by the entire populace at large, such as Valentine's Day or Mother's Day, or even April 15 tax day.

You know that someone would have trademarked it if they could. But of course they can't. Black Friday is sort of owned by everyone. It is a holiday of sorts that everyone knows about and many look forward to as the day to purchase some high ticket items like large TVs and save big.

In the end, I think you would agree that all these sites are fooling no one. It becomes clear they are simply jockeying for position and attempting to make themselves sound official. In fact, they are pretty much all alike once you look at all these "official" Black Friday sites. It would be smarter, I think, to come up with something that none of the others has so as to set yourself apart from the competition.
