Disney Pixar looks at wearing of kilts for new film called Brave

by Jason Jones

Disney is ramping up its digital campaign for Pixars next animated film release called Brave with a cheeky advertisement illustrating some of the attire in the movie.

Brave occurs in 10th century Scotland and follows Merida (told by Kelly Macdonald), a talented archer who is determined to challenge customs and customs by taking destiny into her very own hands.

As far as Pixar films go, Brave is the first movie from the studio with a central female protagonist. This poses a challenge of sorts to the marketing specialists at Disney and Pixar because focusing too much on the female aspect of the story can shut out the young male audiences that Pixar also wants to attract.

That's the reason why it is smart that for the newest featurette, a faux ad for kilts, Disney goes after humour, not girlishness.

The studio has been busy releasing featurettes, behind-the-scenes photographs and other morsels across YouTube and Facebook. The Facebook Page for Brave has more than 125,000 Likes as well as a set of photos, videos and links to applications.

In the rough and mysterious Highlands of Scotland, stories of paranormal legends and epic battles have been passed through the generations since ancient times. Disney Pixar's "Brave" a new story, joins the lore when the courageous Merida (voice of Kelly Macdonald) confronts tradition, destiny and the fiercest of beasts. The film examines the men wearing kilts and kilt hose.

"Brave" tells the tale of Merida, a talented archer and impetuous daughter of King Fergus (voice of Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (voice of Emma Thompson). Anxious to carve her very own path in life, Merida defies a long standing custom sacred to the uproarious lords of the land: large Lord MacGuffin (voice of Kevin McKidd), surly Lord Macintosh (voice of Craig Ferguson) and cantankerous Lord Dingwall (voice of Robbie Coltrane). Merida's actions accidentally loose chaos and fury in the kingdom, and when she turns to an eccentric old Smart Girl (voice of Julie Walters) for help, she is granted an ill-starred wish. The ensuing peril forces Merida to find out the meaning of true bravery to undo an animal curse before it's too late.

Directed by Mark Andrews ("The Incredibles," "Ratatouille," "John Carter of Mars") and Brenda Chapman ("The Lion King," "Prince of Egypt"), and produced by Katherine Sarafian ("Lifted," "The Incredibles"), "Brave" is a grand journey full of heart, remarkable characters and the signature Pixar humour enjoyed by audiences of every age.

Disney Pixar's Brave is released in theatres on 17 Aug 2012, and will likely be presented in Disney Digital 3D in select cinemas.
