Be Professional At All Times
by Hannah S. Thompson
Can you think of when you had the ability to control the flow of info about yourself? You were able to, without much effort, control just what others knew about you and how they could find out about it. This is not the reality you live in anymore. Nowadays, people have all sorts of ways to find out whatever they would like to find out about you. This is tough for those who have "regular" day jobs offline. It's much harder for individuals who work on the internet. Now, an errant online comment could mean the difference between getting the sale and not getting the sale.
And ao, what should you do? What is the plan? The real way to keep your reputation pristine is to be as professional as you can both online and offline. Here are our suggestions.
1. See to it that every thing you write down is spelled right and is grammatically correct. It doesn't matter if you're only composing a quick instant message to someone or writing your sales page. Spelling and grammar are essential. The last thing you want is for a prospective buyer to find something you've written and discover that it is full of errors. It shows that you have no clue about what is what.
2. It is important to answer every last email and phone call. Keep your conversations and replies friendly, positive and courteous. Do not let an email message sit in your box for more than a day without answering it. Never let a voicemail message go unreturned. Answer all phone call by the third ring. These are the kinds of details that will tell individuals all they need to know about your commitment to your project.
3. React to negative feedback graciously and nicely. There are invariably going to be trolls who want you to feel awful about yourself. Nonetheless, there will be those who have legitimate complaints about your project and how it is presented. Take every criticism or suggestion to heart and ask if you could really make the improvements the individual would like to see without it harming your business. Next communicate with the the individual and explain to him or her whether or not you are going to adopt the suggestion. This will demonstrate that you take each person seriously, not only people who give you positive feedback.
4. Pay attention to your social media! It's not difficult, while in the throes of social media, to forget that you're not merely a random individualonline user, you're representing a business. Tweeting and Facebook messages that sound too informal might be well received by the individual they are intended for. They might also be misconstrued by someone who stumbles on to them as proof that you're not serious about your reputation or business.
5. Let your personality shine through. No one says you need to hide everything that makes you you. The real fact is that possibly the most effective way to set yourself apart from the competition is to let your personality shine. Still, at the same time, bear in mind that you're representing your business, so make sure you keep your best face forward.
