Bizarre, Funny, Or Serious - All Design Types Are Possible With The Right T-Shirt Printing Technique

by Justine Evans

The weird, the unique, the bizarre, the funny - who could say no to such personalized gifts that are custom-made, with the recipients in mind for each design? A way of accomplishing the above characteristics for your t-shirt gifts to friends, relatives, work personnel, and dedicated patrons would be through customized t-shirt printing. T-shirt designs are endless. For many individuals, the opportunity of giving gifts that are easy to find but are still infused with a personal touch are two of the features of custom t-shirt printing that the giver cannot say no to.

Various Types Of T-Shirt Printing Techniques

T-shirts were first made in the 1920s. Since then, t-shirt manufacturers have cooked up different ways of putting designs on the surface of these pieces of clothing so that buyers are more attracted to buy them. Below are two methods known to be the most tried and tested procedures of t-shirt printing.

Silk Screen T-Shirt Printing

Silk screen printing is maybe the oldest and most well-known process of printing designs onto pieces of clothing, such as t-shirts. Owing to its consistently wonderful results, many t-shirt printers favor this particular process. The process operates on a fairly simple principle. In a template, the desired design is drawn. Then, a sharp tool cuts the design to ensure that the colors from the pigment can pass through.

Afterwards, the template is laid on a silk screen and transferred there with the use of a special chemical. The screen is then laid over the surface of a t-shirt. An emulsion of pigment is then poured over the screen, one certain color at each pouring. A squeegee forces the paint out of the fine mesh of the screen; it is then absorbed by the cloth fibers of the t-shirt. The method will be repeated, depending on the number of colors required for the design. The results are for a long time, although can be quite pricey if one is ordering individual shirts.

Heat Transfer T-Shirt Printing

Although not as durable as silk-screen printed designs, graphics and texts placed unto t-shirt through heat transfer printing have grown in popularity in recent years. If you are looking for a fast way to print t-shirt designs at a fraction of the cost of silk screen printing, then the answer might be heat transfer printing. In this technique, a heat press is used to transfer a design to the surface of t-shirts. Through this process, t-shirt designs that are multicolored and need to look bold are quite achievable.
