Graphic Design Course: A Snapshot

Promotion in visual communications is the fundamentals of a professional graphic design course. Established advertising, marketing and published print employ graphic design artists and Web developers in both print and online multimedia Creating meaning and significance for branding identity is a major function in graphic design. An associate of occupational studies in graphic design is achievable in less than 24 months via traditional and online schools.
Online colleges and brick and mortar schools offer different course work requirements. General education classes and required lower division classes include art, written composition, logic and semantics, psychology, computer information systems, advertising, business studies and marketing. Student portfolios will be designed and created through professional industry recognized software that works in images and illustrations for typography, composition and color calibration, enhancement and other methods of production.

Specific courses include, but are not limited to, the following subjects that vary depending college methods: design and composition, graphic design, upper level graphic design, digital photography, logo design, packaging design and business design models, marketing, business and technical writing, print production, branding and identity. science skills will include CSS, HTML, ActionScript 3 for Designers, JavaScript for Designers, Fireworks for Web graphics. Professional software instruction builds on customary industry tools: Illustrator, Dreamweaver, and InDesign. A complete transcript will list 75 credits - 54 in design and art, 18 in general studies. The finishing achievement of 24 month program of study will build a career opening portfolio that is peer and faculty reviewed. Accredited colleges will accept most transcript credits for 48 month programs.
Online requirements are modern and different than campus based materials necessities. Online schools maintain all textbook material online and do not require actual hardcopies. Campus-based programs provide labs and basically rent to students whereas online, cloud-based programs offer student ownership of hardware and professional graphic design software, Internet connection, plus peripherals, i.e., digital camera, Webcam, headphones or mic and a speaker system. Basic drawing materials such as pencils, charcoal, newsprint, and sketch paper are also student responsibilities.
