Tips for Brochure Designing

by Nabeel Shaukat

Brochures are an important tool of marketing and providing information. They can be used as a tool of marketing to advertise your services or products. They can also used as a tool to provide information to your audience about some topic such as HIV/AIDS, TB, or any other topic.

Brochures do the talking on your behalf with your audience. Therefore it is very important that your brochures are designed very carefully so that they provide the correct message and explain your topic accurately. We will you some tips for designing an appropriate and effective brochure.

Use colours:

Use appropriate colours for the paper, background, and the text. The colours should attract the attention of brochure holder and create his/her interest to read the content.

Use Photos and Pictures:

Put some interesting photos in your brochure. A brochure full of plain text will appear to be boring and dull. A generous use of photos and attention-getting graphics, and use of bold font will catch your audience's interested.

Use Consistent Font and Typeface:

Consistency in the use of typefaces, font and sizes of headlines, text-body, and captions is very important. You should try to avoid using unpleasantly large fonts and headlines that will appear like fillers to fill the space of your brochure.

Use Succinct Language:

Be very frugal with your words. Using a succinct language is important while designing a brochure. Brochure is a small pamphlet therefore you cannot waste your space by using unnecessary words and language. You should provide only the necessary and most important information in the brochure.

Use Proof-Reader:

It is in your best interest to ask an independent person (preferably an expert) to review your brochure and provide you feedback for making any improvements in the brochure. Proof-reader will also minimise the common mistakes such as spelling errors, design mistakes, poor production or incorrect information in the brochure.

Use High Quality Printer:

You should try to use a high quality professional printer and paper if money is not a problem. Common inkjet printer and glossy brochure paper will do if budget is low and quality is not a high priority. Another way to save money is to get the brochure printed by a professional and perform labour intensive steps yourself. Folding the brochure, affixing seals and labels, and posting by yourself will save you money.
