Does Google's New Privacy Policy Make Search More Personal?

by Cindy Miller

Google launched its new privacy policy on March 1. There are a lot of things described in the revolutionary privacy policy but in understandable terms, Google has been collecting information and keeping a record search behaviour of its users so that they know very well what search results it will give its end users best.

This is the reason sometimes when you're signed into Gmail and you have recently sent lots of emails to your lawyer, the sponsored links from Google will showcase lawyer-related links.

How Does The Privacy Policy Impact SEO?

There is no direct correlation between the privacy policy and SEO. If anything, this affirms Google as being search engine, with search at its essence function despite Google recently launching its own edition of social network, Google Search, Plus Your World driven by Google+. The privacy policy highlights the fact that Google will always concentrate on search.

The slight collaboration between the privacy policy and SEO might be because Google will give its web users a unique experience in the search determined by what information it has collected from the user. For instance, if you are using Google Docs and want to send the document using Gmail, Google can display the e-mail addresses of the Gmail contacts whom it thinks the document will be sent to.

Is There A Way To Stop Google From Accessing Your Data?

Yes there is. You can actually switch off search history so none of your activities can be traced. The outcome of this is that it will forbid Google to give you related searches which it supposes, determined by history, will likely be most valuable to you.

Search Plus Your World, for example, provide you with personal search results instead of the public results. But you are required to sign in to your Google+ account first before you can access private search. If you are looking to know the searches on the whole, then don't sign on to Google+. If you are looking to know what your pals think about a particular search query which you have put into Google, then sign up to your Google+ account to get this information.

Whatever it is, Google is going to be search driven and therefore SEO will always have a relationship with Google, particularly SEO strategies that unite with Google search principles.
