Essential Questions You Should Ask before You Build a Website

by Wynell Corvelli

In order to truly succeed with an online business, you will need to build a website. This should be obvious. However, just because you know you need a web site doesn't mean you have the skills or knowledge to create one. Building a website begins with planning to ensure you remember to include all the things you need. There are a lot of questions that you need to answer before you can start the building process. Here are some things to consider before you jump into building a website.

First of all, what is the goal of having your business? Is your site going to be promoting a product of some sort? Have you considered being an affiliate? Will you promote a service on your site? Is this an educational product? Planning a website, and building it, begins with understanding these initial goals that you have in mind. Do you need to get a sales page for the website? A blog is also something you may need. You can add a portfolio. You won't know until you figure out exactly what it is that you want to do with your professional endeavors.

How much money do you have to spend on your website and all of the work that will go into it? If you do everything on your own you won't have to spend as much money, but on the other end, you'll have to dedicate a lot of time toward learning how to code, design and putting together proper materials. If you want to hire someone you need to make sure that you will get the best work possible for your budget. In any case, the last thing you want is for your site to make you go broke, right?

In the future, where will you be? Let's say, in a year, where do you want your business to be? How about two years? How about five years from now? And in 10 years, with the picture stay the same or will it look different? It is so important, absolutely vital, but you know how to answer these questions before you start. A website for a quick one time project is going to have a different feel than a business that is being set up to run over the course of a decade (or a few). Understanding that your business will not last a lifetime is something you should be aware of. By setting realistic goals, ones that you can achieve using the website that you are building, you will have a better idea of what to expect.

In conclusion, simply setting up a website without having specific business objectives in mind is what most Internet Marketer do. Knowing the answers to these questions before you start building a website is absolutely imperative. Once you understand where you are going and what your objectives are with the website, you will have a better chance of finding success.
