Supervising Affiliate Marketers - Best Practices

You must keep an eye on affiliates. They often do weird things and it is just human nature. At times they become a bit carried away or excited. I've had cases where an affiliate begins cyber-squatting on my domain names. Things like my own name. Like they register a Skype account with my own name, Who knows why they do this however, some individuals are a bit ridiculous. Therefore you should set Google alerts on your own name and keep track of what is going on with the affiliates. Set Google alerts for your product names.
My staff knows much more about my affiliate's websites than my actual affiliates do. They've set Google alerts, they keep close track of what they are advertising, how they're selling it, and we make sure that we keep an eye on it so that they know they are not doing anything inappropriate. There had been FTC actions against companies where their affiliate marketers have made false promises or pretended to do assessments etc. so you need to be careful and keep track of what your affiliate marketers are doing and ensure you provide for that within your terms and conditions.
I'm going to show you and incident where I almost got scammed by an affiliate and I'm sharing this so that you can avoid the same thing from happening to you.
Affiliate Supervisor?
Something you may want to consider is an affiliate manager. If you are not strong in sales or marketing or creating partnerships or sales writing or managing projects, then you probably want an affiliate manager.
An affiliate manager will typically take a percentage override on anybody he presents as well as the sales they generate. It could be 3% or 5% or 10%. You shouldn't have to pay a fee unless it's a big launch. An affiliate manager needs to be connected with groups of affiliate marketers, they should be capable to write good email copy, they should be networkers, plus they should be able to help broadcast new stuff released.
