World of Ryyah - Birth of the Half Elves, By HL Watson - Book Review
by Cressta Havlin
From the moment I started reading Tara Casalino's "The Guardians," I was drawn in by the characters, the story, the mystery, and the magic of the fantasy world this initial-time author has designed. The story begins in an inn exactly where Rafe and his companions await an earl who has hired them to get to the bottom of a mystery.
Rafe and his pals, unbeknownst to those around them, are Guardians, humans chosen to have specific abilities and powers to defend the world. But when the earl enters the inn with a mysterious woman named Ashera, Rafe realizes the game is about to transform due to the fact Ashera can sense correct away that they are extra than human, and they equally understand she is extra-perhaps component of the Griffin race, believed extinct till now.
The Guardians' origins, and the mysterious origin of Ashera, which even she can not explain, take the reader back in time to the pretty beginnings of Casalino's fantasy planet as the story of its creation and how dark forces entered the planet are told, and inside that story lie the seeds for the evil the Guardians are now named upon to fight.
I do not want to give away the story it is adequate to say that "The Guardians" has in it almost everything that a excellent fantasy story calls for, from beings with supernatural powers, to unicorns and dragons, a sinister and powerful dark force, and a nicely-paced narrative told by the most important character Rafe. The very first-person voice is engaging, calm, and provides assurance to the reader through a mysterious and at occasions risky quest to defeat the powers of evil. And given that Ashera is my preferred character, Rafe's descriptions and interactions with her continuously kept my attention. Right here is Casalino's description of Ashera, via Rafe's eyes in the opening chapter following an attack at the inn:
"The 4 males faced her once again, weapons in hand, and as one, charged. Mouth agape, I watched as she just flowed out of the way, drawing her swords in one particular smooth, fluid motion by simply pulling her hands back down to her sides.
