The History Of Lovely Capodimonte Dcor Products Is Fascinating

by Dwayne M. Cioffi

Just the other day, I was chatting with a friend who offhandedly dropped the phrase Capodimonte flowers, which is something I'd never heard of. After a few more questions, she smiled and said that the flowers were examples of a famous variety of Italian art called Capodimonte porcelain. When I got to see the flowers, they were not the immaculate white that I had envisioned, rather they were a variety of strong, exciting colors.

The story begins in the 18th century when a nobleman from Italy was impressed with some ceramic designs from Saxony and wanted to move the industry to his own country. After taking his idea back home, he constructed a factory where these artworks could be made and a school where artisans could be trained. As the years went on, these artists began to perfect their own style of porcelain flowers that became world-renowned as the Capodimonte style.

As it turns out, there is much more to the Capodimonte style than just flowers. You can find Capodimonte ceramics that are designed to be different works of beauty like vases, clocks, and centerpieces. Just as before, what shocked me the most was the amazing bright colors that were just so captivating. All the items in my friend's selection were authentic, from Italy, and were made using the old established methods

At this point, I had only seen photos of Capodimonte flowers, so when my friend offered to take me to her place and let me peruse the collection, I jumped at the chance. It was splendid, as, aside from some incredible examples of ceramic artistry, I noticed that she had some small crystal figurines that were also very detailed. She called these small, cute works of art Swarovsky figurines. Again, I didn't know what that meant, but she told me that they were a style of art that comes originally from Austria and consists of very finely cut glass.

The few that she had were Italian Swarovsky. She had quite a few, and all of them had a unique, clever shape. There were people, bears, panthers, boats, ballerinas, basically everything that you could conceive had been carved from that crystal. After seeing all of these amazing artworks, I am happy to say that I have learned so much about art history and what kinds of pieces are out there. I am eager now to expand my mind about what other forms of art is out there, but the next time, I hope to take the time to explore the history of each type that I come across.
